Today is National
Woman’s Day. I felt a second post is
necessary to honor those women that were pioneers in the field of cybersecurity.
Here is a list of s few notable women that I admire.
- Dorothy
Denning: She is considered one of the pioneers of cybersecurity and is
known for her work in computer security and cryptography. She has written
several books on the subject, including "Cryptography and Data
Security" and "Information Warfare and Security."
- Radia
Perlman: She is known as the "Mother of the Internet" for her
work in developing the spanning-tree protocol (STP), which is used to
prevent network loops. She has also made significant contributions to
network security and has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of
Fame.
- Deborah
Estrin: She is known for her work in the field of mobile sensing and has
developed several mobile sensing applications that are used in healthcare
and environmental monitoring. She is also a professor of computer science
at Cornell Tech and has won numerous awards for her work.
- Mary
Ann Davidson: She is known for her work in software security and has been
the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at Oracle since 2005. She has also been
involved in developing security standards and has served on several
cybersecurity advisory boards.
- Winn
Schwartau: She is known for her work in the field of information warfare
and has written several books on the subject, including "Information
Warfare: Cyberterrorism, and Cybercrime." She has also developed
several security solutions and has been a consultant to the US government.
- Paula
DeWitte – Professor at Texas A&M University, School of Engineering and
School of Law – Paula is teaching others the legal aspects of Cybersecurity
Law leading the way in the field where law and computer science intersect.
